Overview

What to Expect

We seek to do two things at our community gatherings:

  1. Provide opportunities to connect with like-minded Christian counselors where you can feel seen, known, and understood as a therapist.
  2. Offer opportunities to learn from others who are doing the sacred work of counseling while applying the important skill of integrating a biblical worldview and clinical practice.

At this event we have the unique privilege of learning from one of the most important thought leaders on the integration of faith and psychotherapy: Dr. Eric L. Johnson, Ph.D.

About Dr. Eric Johnson, Ph.D.

Dr. Johnson is the Founder & Scholar-in-Residence, Christian Psychology Institute | Author-in-Residence, Sojourn East | Senior Research Professor, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

He brings over three decades of expertise at the intersection of faith and mental health. As Founder and Scholar-in-Residence of the Christian Psychology Institute, he is pioneering a national hub for training and certification in Christ-Centered Therapy. Previously, he founded the M.A. in Christian Counseling program at Houston Christian University—where he served as Professor of Christian Psychology for five years—and taught psychology and counseling for more than 30 years.

Eric has edited and co-edited several landmark volumes—Psychology & Christianity: Five Views, Evidence-Based Practices for Christian Counseling and Psychotherapy, and Marriage: Its Foundation, Theology, and Mission in a Changing World—and has authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters. In collaboration with Joshua Knabb, he contributed to Christian Psychotherapy in Context. His two foundational books, Foundations for Soul Care: A Christian Psychology Proposal and God and Soul Care: The Therapeutic Resources of the Christian Faith, articulate a distinctly Christian framework for therapy.

He is currently developing a Christ-centered model that integrates evidence-based strategies with deeply rooted theological principles. In addition to founding the Society for Christian Psychology (a division of the AACC), Eric serves as a Senior Research Professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has 25 years of pastoral counseling experience.

Attendees of this special event will benefit from his passion for equipping counselors to integrate biblical truth and therapeutic best practices in service of holistic soul care.
