Your Soul Matters in the Work You Do

You sit with suffering, grief, trauma, and spiritual struggle.

That work touches more than your mind.

It touches your soul.

Spiritual Dryness Can Hide Behind Faithful Service

You can keep serving and still feel distant from God.

You can encourage others and still feel empty.

You can believe deeply and still need care.

Rest Is Not the Opposite of Calling

Christian counselors often feel guilty for needing limits.

But rest is not failure.

Healthy limits help you serve with honesty, humility, and care.

Christian Counselors Need Honest Rhythms of Renewal

Spiritual formation is not a performance.

It is a way of staying honest before God, yourself, and others.

1.

Name Spiritual Dryness

Recognize when your soul feels tired, numb, distant, or discouraged.

2.

Practice Rest Without Shame

Receive limits as part of faithful, embodied care.

3.

Pray Honestly

Make room for prayer that is real, not performative.

4.

Stay Connected

Seek community when isolation makes spiritual struggle harder to name.

5.

Serve With Humility

Let formation shape your presence, wisdom, and care for clients.

Go Deeper: What Christian Counselors Need to Know About Spiritual Formation

Christian counselors often carry the stories of suffering, trauma, grief, conflict, shame, and spiritual confusion. Over time, that work can affect the counselor’s own prayer, hope, worship, and sense of calling. Spiritual dryness does not always mean failure. It may be connected to burnout, grief, trauma exposure, isolation, compassion fatigue, depression, overwork, or a season of honest spiritual struggle. Christian counselors need space to name that reality without shame. Spiritual formation for counselors should be both deeply Christian and clinically wise. Prayer matters. Sabbath matters. Worship matters. Scripture matters. But spiritual language should not be used to avoid limits, supervision, consultation, rest, therapy, or needed changes in workload. This is especially important for helpers who feel pressure to always be strong. You are not less faithful because you need rest. You are not less called because you need support. Christian love is not disproved by limits. In long-term counseling work, limits often protect love. RCC exists to help Christian counselors connect, consult, and flourish. Through free learning content, community, consultation, trainings, and practical resources, RCC gives counselors a place to care for their soul while continuing to care for others.
